Advising at the UO

Academic advising is a collaborative relationship between a student and an advisor, who works with you to understand all the requirements, policies, and procedures students must follow to graduate with a degree.

There are at least three pieces that make up a UO degree: your major, electives, and core education. Everyone's puzzle may look different.

Earning Your Degree

180
Credits (except architecture and interior architecture)
15
Credits per term on average to stay on track
4
Years to complete your degree (for first-time students)

Core Education

The UO is a liberal arts university. That means your education is about more than preparing for one job or learning one set of skills. It's about learning how to think clearly, communicate well, solve problems, and understand the world from more than one point of view. That's where Core Education courses come in.

Degree Types

Most students will complete a bachelor of arts or a bachelor of science degree. A few majors require students to complete a different type of bachelor's degree. There are several factors that will influence your decision about which type of degree you want, including whether math or a second language is required for your major.

Majors and Minors

With nearly 200 undergraduate programs at the UO, you don’t have to choose between passion and possibility—you get both. Search for majors and minors by interest and by school or college.

Clark Honors College

Students at the Robert D. Clark Honors College can pursue any UO major and complete a thesis in their major field. However, the CHC follows a different core education curriculum.
