Ducks on Track FAQs

General

What is Ducks on Track (DoT)?

DoT is a web-based tool students and advisors can use to monitor progress toward degree completion and assist with registration decisions. DoT keeps track of the degree requirements of the UO Catalog and coursework completed to generate an easy-to-read Academic Degree Audit. Each Degree Audit has blocks showing how courses are being applied to your degree, major, and minor requirements.

What do I do if I have accessibility needs in order to use Ducks on Track?

Please contact the Office of the Registrar at registrar@uoregon.edu or 541-346-2935.

Who can use Ducks on Track?

Students, advisors, program staff, and faculty advisors all have access to Ducks on Track.

Is my information secure in Ducks on Track?

Absolutely! Ducks on Track, like all tools accessed via DuckWeb, is FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) compliant and protected via secure authentication access.

Is Ducks on Track mobile friendly?

Yes. Ducks on Track is optimized for viewing on your phone, tablet, or computer monitor.

How does Ducks on Track's Degree Audit differ from a transcript?

The Degree Audit is a resource designed to help students visualize their coursework applied to program requirements. It will help track completion of major, minor, and general education degree requirements.

An academic transcript is the official university record of courses, credits, and associated grades earned in a student's academic history at the University of Oregon. More information regarding transcripts is available on the Office of the Registrar's website.

Can I see requirements for majors or minors not yet declared?

DoT also has a "What If" planning tool. This assists you with seeing how different courses will count toward your requirements in the future. The What If can also show the impact of adding a major or minor. It can also show how changing your degree type or major or minor will impact yourdegree progress and timeline. The major/minor/degree change is the core function of the What If analysis. However, the What If can perform additional functionality to show the impact of planned future courses on degree requirements.

Degree Audit

Where can I see my grades in Ducks on Track?

Once grades have posted for completed credits, you can see them in your Degree Audit. Once posted, you can view grades in the Academic History window of DoT or find the course where it is applied in the Degree Audit.

Can I see a list of all the courses I've taken? How do I see how they meet my degree requirements?

There is a feature called Academic History within DoT that lists in chronological order your completed courses by term. On the main page, click on the Academic History option from the three dots menu in the upper right corner. This will show you courses you've taken at UO, as well as list any transfer credits, and the grades for each completed course.

How do I know which courses I need to take?

Your Degree Audit will outline courses needed to meet degree, major, minor, and/or areas of inquiry requirements To see your Degree Audit, select the Academic tab under the Student Information Block. For more options, you can also check the tab for the What If audit to see how taking certain course(s) will impact your degree progress and graduation timeline. The use of one or both audits can assist you during your consultation with an advisor in determining which courses to plan on taking when.

I think my Degree Audit is incorrect. What should I do?

The first step is to clarify what information you believe is wrong. Here are some of the most common problems and courses of action:

  • My major is wrong on my audit: If you have not officially declared or changed your major, check for instructions on the major department’s UO website. If you have already declared or changed your major, the Ducks on Track Audit will only display your active degree audit. If your change is effective for a future term, the change may not reflect until your student record is active that term, which happens prior to registration. If you have consulted the website and you still have unresolved concerns, see an advisor.
  • How do I update my curriculum to a more recent catalog year? Notify an advisor who can communicate with the Office of the Registrar regarding catalog year and major requirements.
  • My courses don't appear in the right place. How the Degree Audit applies a course to your requirements (degree, core education, major, minor, etc.) changes based on what you've taken and optimizes for degree completion. Because Ducks on Track uses a "best fit" approach when applying your courses to requirements, individual courses may apply to different sections as you take more courses or if you change your major, minor, or degree type. If you have further questions about why courses are moving around in a particular way, please contact an advisor.
  • My advisor or department gave me permission to substitute a course, but it is not showing on my audit. Speak with your department about any exception that is not showing up as you thought it should. Once an exception is entered by the Office of the Registrar, it will appear in the Degree Audit.

If you have a concern different from those listed above, you can attend drop-in hours (if you are registering for courses or during week 1 of a term). Otherwise, if you are a College of Arts & Sciences major you can contact tykesonfront@uoregon.edu or you can make an appointment to see an advisor in a different unit.

How often should I check my Degree Audit in Ducks on Track?

There are many instances when viewing your current Degree Audit is helpful. Before an advising appointment, before registering for courses, after your grades are posted for a term to see how your courses are listed to meet requirements, or any time you are considering making a schedule change or change to a major or minor.

My Degree Audit in Ducks on Track applies one of my courses to two different requirements. Is this OK?

Ducks on Track is coded to recognize when a course is allowed to fulfill more than one requirement simultaneously. If you have any additional questions, please contact an advisor.

I've been approved for an exception to a degree requirement. How will that exception appear in Ducks on Track?

Once an exception is processed by the Office of the Registrar it will be notated in an Exception block at the bottom of the Degree Audit, and the course will show up under the requirement it was approved for in the appropriate requirement block.

I repeated a course and I don't understand how it appears on the Degree Audit. Where do I find it?

If you successfully repeat a course, only your most recent attempt counts toward degree progress and meets requirements. The earlier attempt will be placed in the Insufficient block at the bottom of your audit. Credits in the Insufficient block do not count toward total degree credit hours, and they cannot be used to fulfill any requirements. Repeated courses will have an "R" in the repeat column. There is additional information about Repeat courses on the office of the Registrar's webpage and further information about the repeat policy for Financial Aid on the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships webpage.

What do I do if my major, minor, or concentration listed on my Degree Audit is incorrect?

Ducks on Track reflects what is currently on record for your declared program, major, minor, or concentration. If you have declared a degree program (type, eg B.A.), Major, Minor, or Concentration and something is showing in Ducks on Track, contact the Office of Academic Advising.

If you have declared a Major, Minor, or Concentration for a future term, it will not be reflected until registration for that term is about to begin. If you have declared for the current or a prior term, and the catalog year listed is incorrect, please contact the advising team in the School or College affiliated with your Major.

Using Ducks on Track

Can I register for courses in Ducks on Track?

No. While you can use your Academic and What If Audits to make a plan for your course schedule, you will still need to register for courses in DuckWeb during your priority registration window. For additional information about registration, see the Office of the Registrar's Registration Information page.

Can I Save or print my Degree Audit or What If Audit?

Yes! The printer icon at the top of the screen in the right corner will allow you to create and save the Academic or What If audits as a PDF or print to your selected printer.

How current is my information in Ducks on Track?

Ducks on Track is refreshed each night. Changes made the same day, like grade changes or adding or dropping courses, will be visible the following day. Your Degree Audit will always be current as of the night before, unless an advisor manually refreshes the information.

How are current courses used to satisfy requirements?

Courses you are currently enrolled in (or pre-registered for) will be applied by default in the Degree Audit when calculating credits applied to the degree and the requirements met. Ducks on Tracks assumes successful completion of enrolled and pre-registered courses.

If you withdraw from a course or do not pass a course, your Degree Audit will update to exclude the course from being applied to requirements.

It is possible for an advisor to see a Degree Audit without pre-registered or in-progress courses applied to requirements (the student user role does not have this functionality). Prior to running the audit, uncheck both In-Progress and Pre-Registered boxes under the Student Information Card and then click Process. If you uncheck either of these, you do need to recheck them for future audits while logged in for a session.

I've seen the "@" symbol in several places on my audit. What does this indicate?

This is a wildcard in Ducks on Track. If the @ appears with a course number after it (eg @ 100), it means you can take any course within that level (a 100 level course). If the @ appears after the subject prefix (eg ENG @), it means you can take any course with that subject prefix.

Why is a requirement showing as "Complete except for courses in progress" when the requirement should already be met by existing coursework?

Ducks on Track's "best fit" algorithm will use in progress and preregistered courses to complete requirements on the Degree Audit if those are the only requirements where the courses will apply to the degree.

Ducks on Track is designed to use as many credits as possible towards degree requirements. If you register for a course that can only fulfill a specific requirement, then it will use your currently registered credit. A requirement isn't frozen, so even though it's marked as complete it can move credits around to utilize as many credits as possible.

Advisors can confirm if already completed coursework satisfies the requirement(s) on your Degree Audit by unchecking the "In Progress" and/or "Pre-Registered" courses boxes and then clicking "Process" to see a new Degree Audit reflecting only completed course work.

Why are some courses shown as needed listed with hyperlinks?

When a requirement is not yet complete, the Degree Audit will show the courses/ attributes that can be chosen from to complete the requirements, as well as helpful advice about what's required. The courses/attributes are hyperlinks that can open a new window containing information from the Class Schedule and information about the course(s) to choose from to fulfill the requirement(s).

Be aware that pre-registered courses will require attention once you are in the term they are actually taken. Ducks on Track will assume successful completion of pre-registered courses, but they may move within the Degree Audit to fulfill different requirements in the future.

I'm pursuing two degrees (a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts or a Bachelor of Science, etc.) and only one appears on the audit. How can I check the requirements and status for my other program of study?

Look at the degree information at the top of the DoT home screen by the Student Block. You’ll notice the degree box has a drop-down arrow. Use this to select the second degree. Once you select this, an audit with the other program (degree type) will display.

Provides a list of all courses taken thus far in chronological order by term. This view also shows credits earned and grades for each course. This view will also include transfer credits earned and applied to degree and/or major/minor requirements.

GPA Calculators

The Graduation GPA Calculator is used to determine the average GPA required to reach a desired GPA upon degree completion. The Term GPA calculator allows a student to estimate what their grade will be for each course they are registered for in the current term and then will calculate the GPA for the term should the student earn the grade selected in the calculator.

Legend

Gives annotations of symbols and terms used throughout the Degree and What If Audits.

Exceptions

If this block is present, shows where exceptions to requirements are for which credits which are included in degree progress.

Over the Limit

Courses listed in this block are not counting towards degree requirements. These course credits have exceeded the number of allowable credits based on General Limitations in the catalog. There may be some exceptions for Dance/Music credits, if a student declares one of these majors. Otherwise, credits will never be used/moved from this block.

Excess Credits

Excess credits are elective credits that are not required to meet the minimum number of credits needed to graduate. Under the student's declared program(s), these credits are not needed for the degree. Courses that are listed in the excess credits block might move to another block to fulfill requirements if the student changes their major or minor program.

In Progress

Current term coursework which will be included in degree if successfully completed.

Preregistered

Courses students are registered for in a future term that are being counted in degree completion requirements assuming successful completion. If credit(s) are not completed with a passing grade the Degree Audit will remove them in future versions.

Insufficient

Insufficient courses do not count towards degree requirements. These include audit, fail, withdraw, or repeated courses that fall outside of allowable repeat rules. Credits deducted for regression also appear in this block. Regression will show in the Over the Limit bucket with a note that says "taken out of sequence with...." Both repeat and regressed courses will have the (R) next to them.
