Background and areas of interest:
I was born in Bangladesh; however, Charleston, South Carolina has been my home the past 12 years. I completed my B.A. in Communication from the College of Charleston and master’s in Higher Education & Student Affairs from the University of South Carolina. I have had the opportunity to supervise, mentor, teach, coach, and work with traditional, transfer, first-year, and international students.
What brought you to the U of O?
After completing my master’s degree, I joined the OAA in Spring 2023 as an Academic Advisor to serve students at UO. I believe a student should know that there is someone available to help them navigate college, and I am happy to be that person for them.
How did you get involved in academic advising?
As a child of immigrants, woman of color, and transfer student, I have experienced many obstacles through my own education. I wanted to model my educators who paved the way and gave me a vessel by helping and believing in me. I am a firm believer that each student brings unique circumstances, situations, backgrounds, and personalities which influence their college experience. My favorite part about advising is meeting students where they are, making connections, supporting their dreams, and helping them to advocate for themselves; delivering urgency, empathy, and making complex topics digestible.
