Lauren Eichler (she/her)

Describe your academic background and areas of interest.

Originally from Baltimore, MD, I moved to Eugene in 2012 for graduate school. I received my PhD in Philosophy from the University of Oregon in 2019 with specializations in genocide studies, environmental ethics, philosophy of race, and Indigenous philosophies. After teaching Philosophy for a few years in Virginia, I switched to advising and decided to move back to OR. In my role as Assistant Director for Advisor Training and Education, I develop training, resources, professional development opportunities for advisors at various levels of experience. I also advise exploring students.

Describe your "exploring" experience as a student.

Though it's really common for many students starting college to be exploring, I knew exactly what I wanted to study and why: English and Philosophy. English because I loved books and was thinking about becoming a writer and philosophy because it had the most interesting courses in the course catalog. I ended up double majoring in both.

What do you like to do when you are not advising?

love to read sci-fi and fantasy, hike, cook and bake, play Guild Wars 2 or puzzle-themed video and board games, and play pickleball. I also love spending time with my friends, and my partner Jeff, and our cat, Rune.
